Mary Alice Brown Williams
March 11, 1920 - September 15, 2010
Savannah- Mary Alice Brown Williams went to live with her Lord & Savior Wednesday, September 15, 2010 at the age of 90.
She was born and raised in Savannah and a graduate of the old Savannah High School. In 1939, she went on to obtain her Associates Degree from Mars Hill College in Mars Hill, NC. In 1941, she then attended and graduated from Georgia State College for Women in Milledgeville, GA where she obtained her Bachelors Degree in Elementary Education. Mary Alice went on to teach in the Chatham County public school system and eventually retired after many years of teaching third grade at Eli Whitney Elementary School.
She was an active member and Past President of the Kensington Park Garden Club and a member of Grace United Methodist Church where she was active in her Sunday School Class and the Women's Group. She had many friends, as she never met a stranger. She loved to play Bridge, Canasta and every Wednesday night, she faithfully played Bingo at Buckingham South where she resided for the past three years.
Mary Alice loved Savannah, but her heart was also in North Carolina where she had many relatives and friends. Many happy summers were spent near Asheville at her "Mountain Home". She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and friend who will be greatly missed.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Albert Kenneth and Jesse Evelyn Douglas Brown, her husband of fifty years, John Howard "Jack" Williams, and mother-in-law, Viola Debele Williams.
She is survived by her daughters, Annette W. Koonce and husband, Larry, Mary Elizabeth "Liz" Williams; granddaughter, Stephanie Zettler Floyd and husband, Wade; sisters-in-law, Virginia Mrs. Brooke Reeve, Anne Mallory and husband John, and many nieces, nephews and their children.
Funeral Service: 11:00 a.m., Saturday, September 18, 2010 at Grace United Methodist Church. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the Church. Burial will follow in Bonaventure Cemetery
